The Government, through the Road Development Agency (RDA) has been undertaking holding maintenance works on the Mufulira-Mokambo Road on the Copperbelt Province so that it is motorable during the rainy season.
As an interim measure, the gravelling works on the 15.5 kilometres Mufulira-Mokambo have advanced under Force Account.
The Agency through the Copperbelt Provincial Office has covered about 5 kilometres gravelling and has dumped 3.5 kilometres of gravel at various road sections.
This Mufulira-Mokambo Road has a signed Concession Agreement but considering the poor state of the road, holding maintenance works have been ongoing to improve traffic movement before the Concessionaire takes over. Works are currently at 55% and are earmarked to be completed by 10th December 2024.
The Government on 15th November 2024 signed a Concession Agreement with Jasworld Ports Limited for the construction of the Mufulira-Mokambo Road, the urban dual carriageway and Border infrastructure at Mokambo in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt.
On 23rd October 2024, the Government further launched rehabilitation works on the 61 kilometres Ndola-Mufulira Road as well as development of Sakania Border and access road.
