President Hakainde Hichilema has expressed satisfaction with the progress being made on the Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway Project, describing it as a clear demonstration of Government’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure while ensuring value for money.
The President made the remarks during a tour of key sections of the project, where he interacted with various stakeholders.
The Presidential tour covered strategic locations along the corridor, including 6 miles, 15 miles, Landless Corner, Liteta, Chibombo and John Chinena.
Addressing workers at Katuba Toll Plaza, President Hichilema commended them for their dedication and professionalism in delivering one of Zambia’s flagship transport infrastructure projects.
“We thank all of you who are working on this road. You are doing a great job. On behalf of the people of Zambia, we appreciate your commitment and hard work,” he said.
While at Landless Corner, President Hichilema also
announced that the Mumbwa–Landless Corner Road would be upgraded to bituminous standard, further strengthening Government’s commitment to improving connectivity across the country.
The Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway Project is being implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model through a Concession Agreement signed in February 2023 between the Government of the Republic of Zambia and MOIC-LN Consortium Limited.
The project involves the upgrading of the 327-kilometre Lusaka–Ndola Road into a modern dual carriageway, as well as the rehabilitation of the 45-kilometre Masangano–Fisenge–Luanshya Road, at a total investment of approximately US$650 million.
During the tour, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Professor Albert Malama, briefed the President on the project’s progress, reporting that overall implementation was at approximately 84 percent.
Prof. Malama highlighted several major milestones already achieved, including the substantial completion of the Landless Corner–Kabwe Bypass section and the successful completion of the Luanshya–Masangano–Fisenge Road, where toll operations commenced in April 2025.
Once completed, the Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway is expected to significantly improve road safety, reduce travel time, facilitate trade and investment, enhance regional connectivity and strengthen Zambia’s position as a strategic transport and logistics hub within the Southern African region.
