Works to upgrade the 100-kilometre Isoka–Muyombe Road in Muchinga Province have gained momentum, with the contractor, China Geo Engineering Corporation, fully mobilised and undertaking earthworks on several sections of the road.

The Government, through the Road Development Agency (RDA), engaged China Geo Engineering Corporation to upgrade the section of the Isoka–Muyombe Road stretching from Km 65 to Km 165.

Current works are focused on the section between Km 66 and Km 75, where cut-and-fill activities have been completed on some sections. Earthworks have also been undertaken between Km 135 and Km 156.

To support the ongoing construction activities, the contractor has installed a crusher plant, which will facilitate the production of construction materials required for the project.

The road upgrade is expected to improve connectivity for communities along the corridor while opening up opportunities for increased economic activity.

Once completed, the improved road is also expected to reduce travel times and vehicle maintenance and repair costs for motorists using the route.

The project is expected to contribute to the Government’s Grow Zambia Agenda by strengthening road connectivity and supporting trade, investment and economic activity along the Isoka–Muyombe corridor.
