…emphasizes on engagement of an independent Engineer

The Engineering Technical Committee has undertaken an audit on the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway, under construction.

EIZ President, Eng. Wesley Kaluba, commended the Road Development Agency (RDA) and the project Contructors for the progress made so far.

He however expressed concern over the delay in appointing an independent engineer to oversee and approve the works.

Eng. Kaluba said it was important to safeguard the interests of the financier and ensure that all progress made on the project conforms to the original designs.

“The engagement of an independent engineer is critical in ensuring that the project is executed to the highest standards and that any deviations from the design are promptly identified and corrected,” he said.

RDA Chief Communications and Corporate Affairs Officer, Anthony Mulowa provided an update on the project’s overall progress, stating that the Lusaka-Ndola stretch is currently at 12.5% while, the Luanshya – Fisenge – Masangano road has seen significant advancements, with progress standing at over 70%.

He said RDA aims to open the Luanshya – Fisenge – Masangano road for traffic by 30th December 2024, ensuring improved connectivity and transport efficiency in the region.

And Chairperson of the Engineering Technical Committee Eng. William Mulusa said the goal is to thoroughly understand the on going construction and ensure that the works are being executed according to the design and specifications.

He further said the involvement of EIZ in conducting these technical audits demonstrates the institution’s commitment in upholding engineering standards and ensuring the successful completion of critical national infrastructure projects.
